A Shadow of the Road delay has pushed the Owlcat Games published RPG off into the future, as players will need to wait until next year for a full visit to the feudal Japan set turn-based RPG.
Previously set to release on November 12th, developer Another Angle Games and publisher Owlcat Games announced the delay today on Steam, less than 2 months after they announced the original release date. Featuring tactical combat and a lot of choices, Shadow of the Road features a story of traditional Japanese beings and powers arrayed against steampunk powers. According to their announcement the extra time is needed to get the game ready, and will let them address remaining issues and give the experience 'the polish it deserves.'
They elaborate that the time they are taking will involve an additional pass on the tactical aspect of various encounters and further tuning combat. They want initiative, positioning, and abilities to all matter in every encounter, and that there are meaningful decisions for players to make. That goes beyond combat, as they are also tuning the progression systems so that there will be additional reasons to try out different skills and tactics in battles. They conclude saying they believe this will create a, "more refined tactical RPG with a more engaging world to explore."
What is the new Shadow of the Road Release Date?
Thankfully, unlike many of these delays, we do have an actual new release date for Shadow of the Road. The new Shadow of the Road release date is set for March 10th, 2027, meaning a delay of about 4 months before players are able to play the full game. If you want to know if it's a title you'd be interested in, you can check out our Shadow of the Road preview, or try the demo out yourself on Steam. I gave it ago a while back and it seemed like a pretty promising game, and one that is up my alley that I'm looking forward to playing in the future.
