Northern Forge Studios just dropped a bunch of news for its multiple games, more specifically, its RPGs. The biggest surprise is that the studio just dropped a new game. The Ottawa-based indie studio held its first-ever digital showcase, called Forge Forward, where it revealed Orna Classic, a new GPS RPG.
Alongside the surprise drop, the team also announced a new game called Balor and shared details about a major multiplayer update coming to Orna: the GPS RPG and Hero of Aethric. They also talked about the recently launched Orna Codex, a free companion mobile app for the Orna universe.
Let’s start with Orna Classic, because it came out of nowhere!
It’s a standalone mobile version of Orna that takes players back to the game’s earlier days. If you’ve been playing Orna: the GPS RPG since its original release in 2018, or you just miss how things used to work back then, this version is a chance to revisit those memories.
Orna Classic sticks to the simpler gameplay. You explore the real world using your phone’s GPS, stumble across fantasy monsters, fight enemies, dive into dungeons, collect equipment, and keep working on your character.
The game uses a pixel art world built around your actual location, so the streets and places around your neighbourhood become part of the adventure. You’ll run into monsters and bosses, discover different locations, and battle enemies through turn-based combat.
You can claim territory and challenge other players, or join a kingdom and get involved in wars and raids. Orna Classic is staying faithful to the earlier version of the game, so it won’t receive the new content, features, and events being added to the modern Orna. You can grab the game now through the Google Play Store.
